Purpose of this site

  • Across Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, and Saturday Night Live, a clear overarching problem emerges: each show has historically treated diversity as optional rather than essential. While all three present themselves as inclusive platforms, their casting choices, voting patterns, and behind-the-scenes structures reveal a consistent tendency to center white, male, and conventionally “mainstream” performers.

  • The purpose of my website is to spread awareness about the representation issues that continue to shape some of the most influential live television shows. By highlighting patterns of underrepresentation, biased decision-making, and the limited visibility given to diverse voices, the site encourages viewers to look beyond the performances and understand the systemic problems behind them.

  • Looking ahead, several meaningful steps can be taken to continue improving representation on live television. These shows must prioritize diversity not just in casting, but also in the decision-making roles that shape the content, such as writers, producers, and judges. Increasing visibility for performers of color, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals should become a consistent practice rather than a special moment.
